Green Art Maremma | How Urban Art Transforms Tuscany through Sustainability and Inclusion

What Is Green Art Maremma?

Launched in 2024 by Claudio Reginali, with co-curation by Davide Braglia and artistic direction from Lapo Simeoni, Green Art Maremma is a visionary urban art project that transforms public walls and squares into sustainable, inclusive art spaces. It uses photocatalytic paint—capable of purifying the air—and recycled materials to deliver a bold message: art can heal spaces, cities, and communities. Community art can heal spaces.

Highlights of the 2025 Edition

The second edition officially opened on June 7, 2025, at Centro Servizi Le Palme in Grosseto. This year’s lineup includes renowned artists such as Aris, Kruella, Jeroo, and Lapo Simeoni. Together, they created four new monumental murals designed not only to beautify the urban landscape but to act as long-lasting environmental interventions.

Urban Art Meets Environmental Innovation

The murals use eco-friendly, smog-eating paint with a projected lifespan of up to 10 years. More than just decoration, these works purify the air and engage citizens with a vision of ecological harmony. The project spans 14 municipalities in the Grosseto province, creating a connected network of open-air artworks and revitalized urban corners.

Inclusive, Accessible, and Community-Centered

A standout feature of the project is its accessibility: artworks include tactile panels and storytelling created in collaboration with members of the Union of the Blind. This allows visually impaired individuals to experience the installations fully. The inauguration also featured a dynamic breakdance performance by the students of “Odissea 2001,” reinforcing the inclusive and contemporary spirit of the project.

A Growing Model of Regenerative Culture

Green Art Maremma is aligned with a broader movement in Tuscany that includes initiatives like Hypermaremma—festivals that turn the region into a landscape-wide museum. By integrating sustainable art with community-led activation, the project serves as a replicable model for urban and rural revitalization.

What’s Next for Green Art Maremma?

The organizers plan to expand into new towns and continue developing educational programs in schools, artist residencies, and seasonal events. The goal? To keep turning underused urban spaces into eco-conscious cultural landmarks that evolve with the territory and its people.
