John Gourley was born in Alaska in 1981. Growing up “off the grid,” his playmates were dogs and his sketch pad. As a child, his days were made of wildlife, arctic lights, quiet, and whatever sci-fi videos he could get his hands on. All this inspired his early art and what he became today.
Portugal. The Man.
Many recognize John as the lead singer and rhythm guitarist in the Portland, Oregon rock band Portugal. The Man, with the hit song “Feel It Still.” Close friends of him discovered surprisingly late his art background.
John Gourley currently lives in Portland with his girlfriend and daughter and piles upon unfinished art. When he is not doing that, he is on tour with his band Portugal. The Man.
